Softball: Ravens Drop Opener of Double-Header against West Chester, 2-1

MELBOURNE, FL (3/9/24) – The Franklin Pierce softball program dropped game one of their double header against West Chester in a low scoring 2-1 final Saturday morning.

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • The Rams threatened to score early in the bottom of the 2nd inning. Madison Melvin smacked an RBI single to second base, scoring Meg Wolfe to jump ahead to a 1-0 lead.  
  • Later in the 4th inning with the bases loaded, Grace Aquilar walked which let Mairead Hopkins score and give the Rams the 2-1 lead.
  • At the top of the 6th inning Bella Williams (Phoenix, AZ) reached first on an error by the shortstop. After reaching first, she took off and stole second. With a runner in scoring position, Lita Vorseth (Mesa, AZ) ripped a single to third, which sent Williams home and put the Ravens on the board, 2-1.
  • The Ravens bats couldn't muster up another run, dropping the first of the double-header to the Rams 2-1.  

BREAKING DOWN THE NUMBERS: 

  • The Rams outhit the Ravens 7-2.  
  • Each team recorded 2 errors.  
  • Lita Vorseth recorded the lone RBI for the Ravens, going 1-3 at the plate. Andie Anderson (Phoenix, Ariz.) recorded the other hit for the Ravens in the loss.  

NEXT FOR THE RAVENS: The Ravens square off against the Rams for game two of the double header later Saturday and will then face Mercy and Molloy Sunday March 10th to finish off the team trip to Melbourne, Florida.
