HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The scoring began on a tough break for the Ravens. In the 2nd Inning, Yellowjackets senior infielder Mariah Wallace scored on a wild pitch, giving the Yellowjackets an early 1-0 lead.
  • The Ravens tied the game in the bottom of the 4th Inning. Senior catcher Ashley Cangiano (North Attleboro, MA) tripled to right center field, making the tying run a base-hit away. Senior infielder Susannah Campos (Lemoore, CA) would provide that RBI base-hit to right field, scoring Cangiano and tying the game 1-1.
  • The Yellowjackets then recaptured the lead in the top of the 5th Inning, scoring 2 runs. Yellowjackets sophomore catcher Camryn Taktak tripled to right-center to start, with sophomore Lindsay Linker coming in to pinch-run for Taktak. The next hit was an RBI single down the right field line by senior outfielder Kaley Clark, scoring Linker and giving the Yellowjackets a 2-1 lead. Clark then reached third off a throwing error. The third run came off an RBI single by sophomore outfielder Dana Bertke, scoring Clark to make it 3-1.

BREAKING DOWN THE NUMBERS:

  • Both teams tallied 6 hits in the game, however the difference was in runners left on base. The Ravens left 5 runners stranded to the Yellowjackets 3.
  • The Ravens also had the only error of the game off a wild throw, which would set up the third run for the Yellowjackets.
  • Ravens' Freshman starting pitcher, Georgia Clough (Barriere, British Columbia), pitched 4 innings giving up 4 hits, 3 runs, 3 walks, and striking out 6 batters. Freshman pitcher Kennedy Morris (Stafford, CT) pitched the remaining 3 innings, giving up 2 hits, 0 runs, and 0 walks.
