Skyhawks Take Two From Ravens on Monday

EASTON, Mass. (April 3, 2017) - The Franklin Pierce University softball team dropped two Northeast-10 Conference contests to Stonehill College on Monday afternoon on Father Gartland Field. The Ravens were shutout by an 8-0 score during game one of the twinbill (8-0, 5 innings) and lost by a 6-1 score in the nightcap. The loss were the Ravens 13th and 14th of the season while the Skyhawks won their second and third game of the season.

Game One: Skyhawks 8, Ravens 0 (Final - 5 Innings)

In game one, the Ravens could muster only two hits on the afternoon while the hosts tallied eight runs on six hits and four errors. Jennifer Mayette earned her first win of the year by firing five innings and striking out four batters. Sophomore righthander Sabrina LoMonaco (Frankln, Mass.) took the setback in one and two third of an inning and remained winless at 0-5.

Junior outfielder Cassidy Sorenson (Billerica, Mass.) and first basemen Aubrey Bianco (Marlboro, N.Y.) racked up the lone hits as Sorenson's knock was of the extra base variety.

Stonehill did all their damage in the first three innings as they scored two, five and one runs to jump out to an early 8-0 lead. Three of the runs in the bottom of the second game on RBI singles while the other two were off an illegal pitch and a double to left center by third basemen Carly Rennie.

Game Two: Skyhawks 6, Ravens 1 (Final)

FPU's offense fared better in game two as they amassed seven hits. Designated player Abbigael Cook (Smithfield, R.I.) was the lone Raven who recorded two hits. First Basemen Dominique Bisaccia (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) went 1-for-4 from the two hole with her first homer of the season.

Sophomore pitcher Abbie Paquette (Biddeford, Maine) hurled five innings allowing six hits, five runs - three earned with three strikeouts and three walks Cassandra Squeri threw a complete game and allowed only one run on seven hits while striking out two.

The game remained scoreless through two innings until Bisaccia deposited a one ball no strike offering over the left field wall to put the Ravens ahead 1-0. Stonehill would score four times in the bottom of the fourth as a Carly Rennie two-run bomb to left center would move the hosts ahead 4-1.

Stonehill would add two insurance runs in the bottom half of the sixth on a double and a sacrifice fly to take the contest by a 6-1 margin.

The Ravens will open their home slate of games on Wednesday when they host Saint Anselm for a doubleheader at 3:00 and 5:00 p.m.
