Softball’s Wood Named NFCA National Player of the Week

RINDGE, N.H. (April 21, 2016) – Senior third baseman Erin Wood (Dover, N.Y.) of the Franklin Pierce University softball team has been named the National Fastpitch Coaches Association's National Player of the Week, as announced on Wednesday by the NFCA. She is believed to be the first player in program history to earn such an accolade.

Wood led the Ravens to a 6-2 record in eight games for the week ending on April 17. She put together a slash line (AVG/OBP/SLG) of .571/.552/1.250 over 28 at-bats on the week (16-for-28), with four doubles and five home runs. Wood scored seven runs, drove in 16 and struck out just once over the eight games.

Wood's strongest performance of the week came in the first game of a doubleheader at Saint Anselm on April 14, when she went 4-for-4 with a pair of home runs, scored three runs and drove in four. She finished the doubleheader 6-for-8 with one double and two home runs.

The Ravens return to the field on Friday, April 22, when they return home to host Stonehill in a Northeast-10 Conference, Northeast Division contest. First pitch is set for 4 p.m. at Bisaccia Softball Complex in Rindge.
