Freshman hit .391 over eight games last week

RINDGE, N.H. (April 27, 2010) – Freshman catcher Jessica Furtado (Taunton, Mass.) of the Franklin Pierce University softball team has been named to the Northeast-10 Conference Weekly Honor Roll for the week ending on April 25, as announced Monday by the conference office.

Over eight games last week for the Ravens, Furtado hit .391 (9-for-23) with one double and two home runs. She drove home four runs, scored three times, slugged .696 and posted a .440 on-base percentage. Twice in the week, Furtado collected at least two hits in a game. In the first game of a doubleheader against Southern New Hampshire on Wednesday, she went 2-for-4 with a solo home run, before hitting 3-for-3 and driving in a run in the first game of a twinbill at Southern Connecticut State on Sunday. Furtado also hit a solo home run in the first game of a Monday doubleheader against Saint Rose.

On the season, Furtado leads the team with a .323 batting average (30-for-93) and has hit eight doubles and a team-best three home runs. She is second on the team with 18 runs batted in and fourth with 12 runs scored. Furtado is slugging .505 and has a .427 on-base percentage.

The Ravens (13-24, 8-16 Northeast-10) return to the field later this afternoon, when they travel to Massachusetts Lowell for a Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. at River View Field in Lowell, Mass.
