Softball Drops Thursday Doubleheader to American International
Lamoureux homers in second game
RINDGE, N.H. (April 15, 2010) – The Franklin
Pierce University softball team dropped both games of a
doubleheader against American International on Thursday in Rindge.
The Ravens fell by scores of 8-2 in game one and 9-1 in the second
game. Franklin Pierce fell to 12-17 overall and 7-9 in the
Northeast-10, while AIC improved to 15-19 and 8-8 in league play.
Jayme Bilafer (Concord, Mass.) went 3-for-3 with two doubles and a run scored in game one to lead the Franklin Pierce offensive attack, while Emily Griffin (Leominster, Mass.) had a hit and drove in a run to aid in the effort.
Kayla Johnson (Hudson, N.H.) started in the circle for the Ravens and suffered the loss after going 4.0 innings and yielding seven runs (four earned) on nine hits with a strikeout and a walk. Six errors doomed Franklin Pierce in the first game.
The game was scoreless over the first three innings, but AIC broke through with two runs in the fourth and then exploded for five in the fifth. Ashleigh St. Peter had the highlight of the fifth inning as she blasted a grand slam. Becky Dion also added an RBI single during the frame.
St. Peter had two hits and scored twice during game one, while Stephanie Belanger went 3-for-5 with a run scored. Kristen Dolan started in the circle for the Yellow Jackets and earned the win after going six innings and allowing one run (zero earned runs) on six hits with 11 strikeouts.
American International continued its strong offensive play in game two as it scored six runs in the first inning and added three more in the third to pull out the 9-1 win, which was called after five innings.
Michele Niejadlik keyed the surge for AIC in the first inning with a two-run double. Michelle Franey, who went 4-for-4 in the game, drove in a run in the third inning to spark the three-run frame.
Franklin Pierce did get a run in the second game and it came on one swing of the bat by Aimee Lamoureux (East Brookfield, Mass.), who ripped a solo home run over the left-field fence in the bottom of the first inning. AIC pitcher Elizabeth Habib started and allowed the homer, but it was the only mistake she would make all game as she earned the win by going all five innings and yielding the one run on two hits with eight strikeouts.
Lindsay Hodges (Sherburne, N.Y.) started in the circle for Franklin Pierce and suffered the loss after going 2.2 innings and allowing six runs (five earned) on nine hits.
