WORCESTER, Mass. (April 27, 2019) – The Franklin Pierce University rowing team took home second place at the Northeast-10 Conference Challenge on Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester Saturday morning.

The Ravens had to deal with harsh winds over 15 miles per hour on the course. They totaled nine points which was one more than conference opponent Merrimack College for third place. Assumption College was crowned conference champions with 18 points.

“We have made some good improvements since the Knecht Cup.” said head coach Sarah Caruthers. “Over half of the Varsity 8+ is made up of novices, so it’s great to see them hanging in there with these crews today. I’m proud of the progress we are making and excited to see how we continue to grow over the next two weeks.”

Pierce fielded only one boat during the challenge the Varsity 8+ squad of senior Sophia Alexandrou (Windham, N.H.), senior Shelby Telega (South Deerfield, Mass.), junior Katrina Grabeau (Nashua, N.H.), freshman Taylor Abbott (Gloucester, Mass.), freshman Alexandra Contino (Galloway, N.J.),  junior Jess Buckley (Wareham, Mass.), sophomore Katrina Wilson (Rindge, N.H.), senior Kaitlin Morin (Raymond, N.H.) and coxswain Allison Lashua (Templeton, Mass.). They finished the race third at 8:28 behind Connecticut College (7:35.68) and Assumption (7:40.36).

FPU is back in action next Saturday, May 4th for the New England Rowing Championship back in Worcester.
