Summa Sunday: Junior Wondu Summa Takes First Place at Umass Dartmouth XC Invitational

NORTH DARTMOUTH, MASS. (9/17/2023) – The Franklin Pierce University men's cross country team hit the course at the UMASS Dartmouth Invitational Sunday and FPU junior Wondu Summa (Burlington, VT.)  led the way with a first-place finish in the 8k race.

Summa finished the race in 24:04 which was 10 seconds faster than the second place runner from Boston University. In the first week of competition, Summa took home runner-up by just 1.4 seconds.

Franklin Pierce finished 5th overall in the race made up of 39 teams totaling over 300 runners. A breakdown of the final times are listed below.

Tad Darrah – 36th place – 25:44
Ryan Walker – 50th place – 25:59
Evan McNeice – 51st place – 26:02
Angel Mendo Alonso – 61st place – 26:12

Harrison Pelosi – 130th place – 27:33

Franklin Pierce women's cross country opened up its first race of the season at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational. The team finished with a combined time of 1:59:01 among five runners which put them in 7th place out of 9 teams.

Individually, Meghan Sheline (Southington, Conn.) was the Raven's top finisher after she ran a 20:08 5k which put her in 8th place out of 119 runners.
