GREENWOOD, Ind. (May 29, 2020) – The Franklin Pierce University cross country and track & field program has had three student-athletes named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District I First Team, as announced on Friday by CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America). Junior Hugo Arlabosse (Marseille, France) and sophomore Riley Fenoff (Danville, Vt.) were honored on the men’s side, while sophomore Paola Brena (Queretaro, Mexico) earned the accolade on the women’s side. As a result of their selections, all three will also advance to the Academic All-America ballot.

To be eligible for selection, each student-athlete must own a 3.30 cumulative grade-point average or higher (through the fall 2019 semester), be at least a sophomore in academic standing and be a starter or significant contributor athletically. The Academic All-District and All-America teams are voted on by sports information directors in the district and nation, respectively.

For the spring 2020 season, criteria was altered to allow student-athletes to be nominated based on their career body of work, rather than just the 2020 campaign. This temporary change was made due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

It is the second straight Academic All-District selection for Arlabosse. As sophomores, Fenoff and Brena were only eligible for the first time this year.

Through the fall semester, Arlabosse held a 3.78 GPA as a mass communication major. He was named as the Northeast-10 Conference Track Athlete of the Year following an indoor season where he claimed both NE10 and New England titles, as well as All-America honors, in the 800 meters. He had qualified for the NCAA Championships via an automatic berth, as he hit the automatic qualifying mark twice during the season, though the national meet was ultimately canceled.

During cross country season, Arlabosse earned All-East Region honors by finishing 11th at the NCAA Championship East Regional, as well as All-NE10 honors for placing fourth at the NE10 Championship. He was an NE10 Academic All-Conference selection for both the cross country and indoor seasons. He also collected the NE10 Sport Excellence Award for the indoor season.

Fenoff has posted a perfect, 4.0 GPA through his first three semesters in Rindge as a biology major. Like Arlabosse, he was an NE10 Academic All-Conference selection for both the cross country and the indoor seasons. In cross country, he added the Elite 24 Award, as the participant with the highest GPA at the NE10 Championship. During the indoor track & field season, Fenoff earned All-East Region honors as part of the distance medley relay team. During cross country season, he earned All-East Region honors by finishing 18th at the East Regional, as well as All-NE10 honors by taking 13th at the NE10 Championship.

Through her first three semesters, Brena posted a 3.72 GPA as a health sciences major. She was the NE10 Field Athlete of the Year after claiming the NE10 title in the high jump. She met the NCAA Championships automatic qualifying standard right off the bat and had punched her ticket to the national meet on just the second weekend of the season. In all, Brena eclipsed the automatic qualifying mark three times over the winter and was ranked second in the nation in the high jump, which earned her All-America honors. She was an NE10 Academic All-Conference selection for the indoor season.

Academic All-America teams are slated to be announced on Wednesday, June 24.
