Men’s Track & Field Takes Second at RPI in Final Pre-Championship Tune-Up

TROY, N.Y. (April 27, 2019) – In its final tune-up before the championship season begins next week, the Franklin Pierce University men's track & field team took second place, out of 13 teams, on Saturday at the Capital District Classic, hosted by Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute at Harkness Field. The Ravens posted a trio of event wins and 13 top-five finishes on the day.

The second-place finish came courtesy of a 93-point day for Franklin Pierce. Host RPI took home the team title with 202 points, while Oneonta followed the Ravens in third, with 88 points.

Franklin Pierce picked up two individual event wins and a relay win on Saturday. Individually, freshman Riley Fenoff (Danville, Vt.) took first in the 1500 meters (4:03.26), while junior Trevor Guay (Londonderry, N.H.) won the 400-meter hurdles (54.89). Meanwhile, a 4x100-meter relay team of freshman Ethan Pezzullo (Bristol, R.I.), freshman Devin Jones (Manchester, N.H.), junior Gerald Leith (Dorchester, Mass.) and Guay got the baton around the track in 43.78 seconds to win as well.

The Ravens collected 10 other top-five finishes at RPI, led by a second-place finish from junior Jason Reed (Foxborough, Mass.) in the 3000-meter steeplechase, as he moved into fourth in the Northeast-10 Conference in the event, with a time of 9:48.88. Also placing second on the day were Jones in the 200-meter dash (22.97) and freshman Croix Albee (Trenton, Maine) in the shot put (14.02m).

In addition to the relay win, Pezzullo added a pair of individual top-five finishes as well. He took third behind Jones in the 200-meter dash (23.17) and also placed fifth in the 100-meter dash (11.39).

Franklin Pierce added four fourth-place finishes and another fifth-place finish to round out the day's top-five performances. Finishing in fourth place were senior Anthony Barinelli (Tewksbury, Mass.) in the 3000-meter steeplechase (10:33.93), senior Robert Boardman (St. Johnsbury, Vt.) in the high jump (1.72m), freshman Ishmael Johnson (Lynn, Mass.) in the triple jump (12.63m) and freshman Armani Mette (Randolph, Mass.) in the shot put (13.37m). Freshman Aaron Young (Colchester, Conn.) took fifth in the pole vault (3.65m).

The Ravens return to action on Friday and Saturday, May 2-3, when they travel to the NE10 Championships, to be hosted by Southern New Hampshire in Manchester, N.H.
