Guay Chalks Up Pair of Wins, Men’s Track & Field Takes Second at Bates Invitational

LEWISTON, Maine (January 19, 2018) – Junior Trevor Guay (Londonderry, N.H.) was victorious in both the 60- and 200-meter dashes on Saturday, to lead the Franklin Pierce University men's track and field team to a second-place finish, out of five teams, at the Bates Invitational. In all, the Ravens collected four event wins and 15 top-five finishes, including three different student-athletes who posted multiple top-five finishes.

The Ravens earned 98 points on the day, which put them second, behind only host Bates (253 points). Following the Ravens in third place was Keene State (64 points).

Guay doubled up with wins in both the 60-meter dash and the 200-meter dash at Bates. He turned in a time of 7.11 seconds in the 60-meter dash and a mark of 22.98 seconds in the 200-meter dash.

Both of the Ravens' other wins on the day came in track events as well. Junior Tyler Hayes (Kings Park, N.Y.) put together a time of 1:27.47 to win the 600 meters, while freshman Riley Fenoff (Danville, Vt.) stopped the clock at 15:46.89 to take first place in the 5000 meters.

Senior Jaris Neville (Atlanta, Ga.) added top-five finishes behind Guay in both sprint events. He finished second in the 60-meter dash (7.25) and fourth in the 200-meter dash (23.94). Meanwhile, sophomore Antonio Rua (Burrillville, R.I.) added a second-place finish behind Hayes in the 600 meters (1:28.63), and sophomore Ryan Ducrow (Amesbury, Mass.) was fourth behind Fenoff in the 5000 meters (16:44.35).

Franklin Pierce also had two other top-five finishes in track events: freshman Devin Jones (Manchester, N.H.) took fourth in the 400-meter dash (53.79), while sophomore Cody Tallent (Bellows Falls, Vt.) did the same in the 3000 meters (9:31.80).

The Ravens also picked up five top-five finishes in field events at Bates, led by freshman Ishmael Johnson (Lynn, Mass.), who placed second in the triple jump (11.75m) and fifth in the long jump (5.72m). Elsewhere, freshman Aaron Young (Colchester, Conn.) was third in the pole vault (3.50m), senior Robert Boardman (St. Johnsbury, Vt.) took fourth in the high jump (1.85m) and freshman Croix Albee (Trenton, Maine) finished fifth in the shot put (11.81m).

The Ravens return to action on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 25-26, when they travel to Boston University for the John Thomas Terrier Classic.
