Arlabosse Shines Again, as Men’s Track & Field Finishes Second at Elm City Challenge

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (December 2, 2017) – Freshman Hugo Arlabosse (Marseille, France) of the Franklin Pierce University men's track & field team posted his first career NCAA Championship provisional qualifying time on Saturday, as he won the 800 meters at the Elm City Challenge. Sophomore Jeff Reddy (Chester, N.H.) added wins in the mile and the 3000 meters, as the Ravens finished second at the two-day, season-opening meet, hosted by Southern Connecticut State.

Franklin Pierce finished the meet with 108 points. Host SCSU piled up 189 points to come away with the victory, while St. Thomas Aquinas (73 points) finished behind the Ravens in third.

Arlabosse turned in a run of 1:54.44 to win the 800 meters, earn 10 points and meet the NCAA provisional qualifying standard in the process. The Frenchman picked up his first career NCAA provisional mark in his very first collegiate meet.

Meanwhile, Reddy won both the mile and 3000 meters, as the Ravens were dominant at both distances on Saturday. He ran a 4:29.04 in the mile and a 9:00.89 in the 3000 meters, picking up 10 points with each victory.

Reddy was not alone in either event. In the mile, he was followed by senior Martin Gradijan (Lebanon, N.H.) in third (4:34.20), for six points, sophomore Jason Reed (Foxborough, Mass.) in fourth (4:35.71), for four points, and sophomore Anthony Pizzo (Peabody, Mass.) in fifth (4:41.40), for two points. Meanwhile, in the 3000 meters, it was Reed picking up four points by finishing fourth (9:30.39), Pizzo tallying two points by finishing fifth (9:25.15) and Arlabosse tacking on another point by finishing sixth (9:26.89).

Going back to the 800 meters, Arlabosse was hardly alone in scoring at the shorter distance. Three other Ravens contributed points in the event: senior Joshua Ercolini (Woburn, Mass.) with eight points in second (1:58.80), sophomore Tyler Hayes (Kings Park, N.Y.) with four points in fourth (2:02.68) and freshman Antonio Rua (Burrillville, R.I.) with one point in sixth (2:08.34).

Also out on the track, junior Jaris Neville (Atlanta, Ga.) chipped in three points by running a time of 22.69 seconds to tie for fourth in the 200 meters, while sophomore Trevor Guay (Londonderry, N.H.) brought home one point with a run of 51.22 seconds in the 400 meters. In addition, the Ravens collected two points in the 4x400-meter relay, by finishing sixth with a time of 3:38.85.

In field events, Franklin Pierce picked up 19 more points on Saturday. Sophomore Jack Ehrhardt (Point Pleasant, N.J.) led the way by clearing 1.90 meters to finish second in the high jump and earn eight points. One spot behind him was junior Robert Boardman (St. Johnsbury, Vt.), who cleared 1.85 meters to finish third and chalk up six points. It was four points in the triple jump for senior Rindal Pierre-Canel (Randolph, Mass.), who finished fourth (14.08m). Lastly, in the shot put, senior Peter Murray (Tewksbury, Mass.) picked up a point with a sixth-place finish (12.91m).

The Ravens return to the track on Saturday, Dec. 9, when they wrap up the semester at the PSU Winter Classic, hosted by Plymouth State, in Plymouth, N.H.
