Men’s Track & Field Gets All-New England Leap from Pierre-Canel at First Day of NEICAAA Championships

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. (May 12, 2017) – An All-New England performance in the long jump by junior Rindal Pierre-Canel (Randolph, Mass.) highlighted the first day of the NEICAAA Championships, hosted by Williams College, on Friday.

Pierre-Canel posted a leap of 6.69 meters, which was good enough to finish eighth. The performance earned him All-New England honors and earned a point for the Ravens.

Elsewhere, Franklin Pierce got a school-record performance from freshman Trevor Guay (Londonderry, N.H.) in the 400-meter hurdles. He finished fourth by getting around the track in 54.17 seconds, a time which is currently good for fourth in the East Region.

Pierre-Canel and Guay were two of the seven Ravens to compete on Friday at the New England Championships. On the track, both junior Nicholas Jacques (Westfield, Mass.) and sophomore Jaris Neville (Atlanta, Ga.) competed in both the 100- and 200-meter dashes. Jacques finished 14th in the 200, with a time of 22.05 seconds, and placed 21st in the 100, with a mark of 11.009 seconds. Neville took 20th in both events, with a time of 11.005 seconds in the 100 and 22.34 seconds in the 200.

Two other Ravens took to the track as well. Junior Craig Telfer (Lebanon, N.H.) finished 16th in the 110-meter hurdles, with a time of 15.17 seconds. Freshman Jeff Reddy (Chester, N.H.) finished 23rd in the 5000 meters, with a time of 15:26.96.

Back in field events, behind Pierre-Canel in the long jump, senior Cory Cataldo (Tewksbury, Mass.) took 17th place, with a leap of 5.93 meters.

The NEICAAA Championships will conclude on Saturday at Williams.
