Track & Field’s Purves, Men’s 4x400 Earn Weekly NE10 Honors

RINDGE, N.H. (April 25, 2017) – Freshman Catherine Purves (Dalkeith, Scotland) of the Franklin Pierce University women's track & field team has been named Northeast-10 Conference Track Rookie of the Week for the week ending on April 23, while the men's team's 4x400-meter relay squad has been named Relay Team of the Week, as announced on Tuesday afternoon by the Conference office.

On Saturday, at UMass Lowell's George Davis Invitational, Purves posted the East Region's fastest time to win the 400-meter hurdles (1:00.88). The time ranks 17th in the nation, meets the NCAA provisional qualifying mark and established a new school record. Earlier, on Friday at the Eastern Invitational at Eastern Connecticut State, she moved up to 10th in the NE10 and set another school record while winning the 200-meter dash (25.83). Also at ECSU, Purves won the 100-meter dash in 14.74 seconds, just 0.01 off her season best.

Meanwhile, on the men's side, the Ravens fielded a lineup of junior Nicholas Jacques (Westfield, Mass.), senior Cory Cataldo (Tewksbury, Mass.), freshman Trevor Guay (Londonderry, N.H.) and senior Dage Minors (Hamilton Parish, Bermuda) on Saturday at Princeton in the Larry Ellis Invitational. The quartet laid down the NE10's second-best time on the season, a 3:19.88, to finish fourth in the event.

The Ravens return to the track on April 27-29, when they travel to Philadelphia for the storied Penn Relays, hosted by the University of Pennsylvania.
