Holmes, Hyde Earn CoSIDA Academic All-District Honors for Track & Field

CoSIDA Academic All-District Teams

RINDGE, N.H. (June 3, 2016) – Junior Jon Holmes (Albany, N.Y.) and senior Nadine Hyde (Maple Valley, Wash.) of the Franklin Pierce University track & field team have been named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District I First Team, as announced last week by CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America). As a result of the selection, both Holmes and Hyde will advance to the Academic All-America ballot.

To be eligible for selection, each student-athlete must own a 3.30 cumulative grade-point average or higher, be at least a sophomore in academic standing and be a starter or significant contributor athletically. The Academic All-District and All-America teams are voted on by sports information directors in the district and nation, respectively.

It is the second straight CoSIDA Academic All-District selection for Holmes, while Hyde earns the accolade for the first time in her career.

Holmes, who earned Sport Excellence award honors from the Northeast-10 Conference for his work in the classroom and on the track during the indoor season, currently sports a 3.82 grade-point average as a graphic communications major. He picked up All-East Region honors from the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association in both the 5000 meters and the distance medley relay during the indoor season. The DMR qualified for the NCAA Championships, where the squad finished 12th. During the outdoor season, Holmes placed sixth in the 5000 meters and seventh in the 4x800-meter relay at the Northeast-10 Championships, while later adding a 23rd-place finish in the 1500 meters at the New England Championships.

For her part, Hyde has put together a 3.84 grade-point average as an environmental science major. She did her best work in the spring, as she earned All-East Region honors from the USTFCCCA in the hammer throw during the outdoor season. Hyde finished third in the hammer and eighth in the discus at the Northeast-10 Championships in May, and followed up with a 12th-place finish in the hammer at the New England Championships.
