DMR at BU, Biunno at Tufts Highlight Day for Men’s Track & Field

BOSTON (January 29, 2016) – With competitors at two different Boston-area meets on Friday, the Franklin Pierce University men's track & field team turned in standout performances at multiple locations on the day.

Friday was the women's day to compete at the John Thomas Terrier Classic, hosted by Boston University, though the men's distance medley relay was held on the day as well. Franklin Pierce fielded a team of junior Jon Holmes (Albany, N.Y.), junior Cory Cataldo (Tewksbury, Mass.), sophomore Joshua Ercolini (Woburn, Mass.) and junior Dage Minors (Hamilton Parish, Bermuda), which finished fourth, with a time of 10:00.99. The time met the NCAA Championships provisional qualifying standard and currently ranks third in the Northeast-10 Conference.

Elsewhere, at the Tufts Stampede, the Ravens had a pair of student-athletes competing in the heptathlon. Senior Vincent Biunno (Montgomery, N.Y.) collected 2751 points through the first four events and held the lead after the first day, while junior Alex Bonitto (Lynn, Mass.) earned 2208 points to sit ninth.

Biunno picked up event wins in both the high jump (1.94m) and long jump (6.61m), while placing second in the 60-meter dash (7.25). The high jump mark was a season best and allowed Biunno to remain third in the Northeast-10 in the event. Bonitto finished first in the shot put, with a heave of 11.80 meters.

The Ravens return to the track on Saturday, Jan. 30, for the conclusion of the Tufts Stampede heptathlon, as well as the remaining events at the John Thomas Terrier Classic at BU. Franklin Pierce is slated to send its pole vault squad to the Tufts Stampede as well.
