Minors, Field Events Carry Day for Men’s Track & Field at GBTC Invitational

Pierre-Canel has season bests in long jump and triple jump

BOSTON (January 24, 2016) – Junior Dage Minors (Hamilton Parish, Bermuda) posted the top time thus far this season in the Northeast-10 Conference on Sunday, as his win the 1000-meter run was among the top performances on the day for the Franklin Pierce University men's track & field team at the Greater Boston Track Club Invitational.

Minors' time of 2:27.53 was not only the best in the Northeast-10 thus far, but it also met the NEICAAA Championships qualifying standard in the event. Minors also picked up a win in the 300 meters on Sunday, with a time of 36.37 seconds.

The Ravens got four other event wins on Sunday, three of which checked in among the top marks so far in the Northeast-10 in 2015-16. In the 60-meter hurdles, sophomore Craig Telfer (Lebanon, N.H.) posted a season-best time of 8.56 seconds, which is currently good for sixth in the Northeast-10. Senior Vincent Biunno (Montgomery, N.Y.) is now tied for ninth in the Conference in the long jump after winning the event with a leap of 6.76 meters. Meanwhile, in the triple jump, sophomore Rindal Pierre-Canel (Randolph, Mass.) posted a mark of 13.40 meters to win and remain 13th in the league. Back on the track, the Ravens 4x440-yard relay squad picked up a win with a time of 3:31.75.

Two other Ravens qualified for the final of the 60-meter hurdles and finished behind Telfer, as junior Mark Choiniere (Ballston Spa, N.Y.) took 3rd in 8.87 seconds and junior Daniel Warner (Windham, N.H.) placed 7th in 9.22 seconds. On the field-event side of things, Choiniere remains ranked 10th in the Northeast-10 in the pole vault after clearing a season-best height of 3.80 meters.

Biunno cleared a season-high mark in the pole vault as well on Sunday. He finished third after clearing 3.95 meters, which is currently tied for sixth in the Northeast-10. Another notable season best on the day for Franklin Pierce came in the long jump, were Pierre-Canel leaped 6.69 meters to finish second, and he now ranks 12th in the Northeast-10 in the event.

Lastly, freshman Jaris Neville (Atlanta, Ga.) put together a solid day of sprinting for the Ravens. He qualified for the final in the 60-meter dash, where he finished fifth by running a time of 7.29 seconds. He also posted the 10th-fastest time thus far in the Northeast-10, as he ran a time of 22.96 seconds to finish third in the 200-meter dash.

The Ravens return to the track on Saturday, Jan. 30, when they return to Boston for the John Thomas Terrier Classic, hosted by Boston University.
