Holmes RINDGE, N.H. (August 12, 2015) – Sophomore Jon Holmes (Albany, N.Y.) of the Franklin Pierce University men's cross country and track & field program has been named to the CoSIDA/Capital One Academic All-District I First Team, as announced earlier this summer by CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America).

To be eligible for selection, each student-athlete must own a 3.30 cumulative grade-point average or higher, be at least a sophomore in academic standing and be a starter or significant contributor athletically. The Academic All-District and All-America teams are voted on by sports information directors in the district and nation, respectively.

It is the first CoSIDA Academic All-District selection for Holmes, who has quickly become a regular fixture on the academic awards circuit. This fall, he was named to the National All-Academic Team by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association for the cross country season and is expected to earn a similar honor for the track & field campaign, though the USTFCCCA has yet to announce the latter. Earlier this summer, Holmes earned a spot of the Northeast-10 Conference Academic All-Conference squad. A year ago, as a freshman, he earned National All-Academic Team honors for track & field from the USTFCCCA, and he is a four-time selection to the Northeast-10 Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll.

Holmes, a graphic communications major with a 3.81 grade-point average, finished the outdoor track & field season tied for 10th in the Northeast-10 in the 800 meters (1:54.03) and 15th in the 1500 meters (3:58.68). He also joined the 4x800-meter team at New England Championships, where he ran the anchor leg on a quartet which placed 20th. During the cross country season, Holmes finished 18th at the Northeast-10 Championship and 70th at the NCAA Championship East Regional.
