WESTFIELD, Mass. (May 9, 2014) – Freshmen Cory Cataldo (Tewksbury, Mass.) and B.J. Smith (Concord, N.H.) both earned All-New England honors on Friday afternoon, to lead the way for the Franklin Pierce University men's track and field team on the first day of the NEICAAA (New England) Championships, hosted by Westfield State. The duo combined for six points, which left Franklin Pierce tied for 15th, out of 25 teams which earned points, through two days at the three-day meet.

Friday was the first of two full days of action at the New England Championships, as Thursday was used solely for the first half of the decathlon, which did not feature any Ravens. Cataldo opened the scoring for Franklin Pierce at the meet, as he matched his season best in the long jump with a mark of 6.62 meters. The jump was good for fifth place, which earned Cataldo All-New England honors and four points for the team.

Smith, the Northeast-10 champion in the 10,000 meters, competed in the 5000 meters on Friday. He ran a 14:41.97, which was his season best by more than 10 seconds and just less than two seconds in back of the NCAA Championships provisional qualifying standard. The time was good for seventh and two points, as Smith joined Cataldo in earning All-New England accolades.

Two other Ravens were in action on Friday at the NEICAAAs. In the javelin, sophomore Chris Bohi (Loudon, N.H.) posted a throw of 54.78 meters to finish 11th. In the 10,000 meters, sophomore Isaac Fithian (Kingston, N.H.) ran a 33:59.38 to finish 20th.

Franklin Pierce wraps up the New England Championships on Saturday, when it is scheduled to have five more student-athletes compete.
