Gisore, Minors Hit NCAA Provisional Marks for Men’s Track & Field at Terrier Invitational

Seven Ravens post marks among NE-10's top 15

Gisore A day after anchoring the distance medley relay to a program record, Gisore was one of two Ravens at BU on Saturday to meet NCAA provisional qualifying standards.

BOSTON, Mass. (January 25, 2014) – Junior Antoine Gisore (Concord, N.H.) ran the Northeast-10 Conference's fastest time on the season in the 3,000 meters on Saturday, as he posted an 8:21.72 to lead the Franklin Pierce University men's track and field team at the Terrier Invitational, hosted by Boston University at BU Track & Tennis Center. Gisore's time, as well as the 800-meter run by freshman Dage Minors (Hamilton Parish, Bermuda) met the NCAA Championships provisional qualifying standards.

Gisore and Minors were two of three Ravens to post marks among the top five in the Northeast-10 in an event, as well as two of seven Ravens with top-15 marks. Gisore's time was good for 27th in the 3,000 at BU and converts to 8:27.54, a season best which easily clears the NCAA provisional mark of 8:33.90 and usurps first place in the Northeast-10 from Adelphi junior Nicholas Filippazzo. Though all times from around the country this weekend have not been submitted, as of press time, Gisore's mark was good for sixth in the nation among times reported to the Track & Field Results Reporting System.

Meanwhile, in the 800, Minors ran a 1:53.48, which was good for 16th place and converts to a season-best 1:55.11, which ranks third in the Northeast-10. The NCAA uses conversion standards to be able to compare times across indoor tracks of varying dimensions.

The remaining top-five Northeast-10 mark for the Ravens came from sophomore Chris Bohi (Loudon, N.H.) in the pole vault. Bohi added 0.15 meters to his previous best vault of the season to clear 3.95 meters, finish 22nd at BU and move into sole possession of fourth place in the Conference.

Two more Franklin Pierce student-athletes posted marks among the top 10 in the Northeast-10 in their respective events. In the triple jump, freshman Cody Steed (Chichester, N.H.) fouled on his first two jumps, but then threw down a mark of 13.49 meters in his third and final attempt, to finish 14th and move into a tie for sixth in the Conference. Back on the track, in the 5,000 meters, sophomore Makopa Rugabirwa (Concord, N.H.) ran a 15:22.99 to finish 50th. The time converts to a season-best 15:32.87 and ranks eighth in the Northeast-10.

In much shorter events, two more Ravens logged performances of note on Saturday. In the 1,000 meters, freshman Dylan Crowley (Woburn, Mass.) stopped the clock at 2:37.11 and finished 55th. The time will be good for 11th in the Northeast-10 after converting to 2:39.28. In the 60-meter dash, senior Calvin Graves (Boston, Mass.) sprinted to a 7.17 to finish 41st at move into a tie for 12th in the Northeast-10.

The Ravens return to the track on Saturday, Feb. 1, at the Dartmouth Classic in Hanover, N.H.
