Gisore Meets NCAA Provisional Mark in 800m for Men’s Track & Field at GBTC Invitational

Junior now NE-10's best in 800m, mile

BOSTON, Mass. (January 19, 2014) – Junior Antoine Gisore (Concord, N.H.) met the NCAA Championship provisional qualifying mark in the 800 meters while winning the event on Sunday for the Franklin Pierce University men's track and field team at the Greater Boston Track Club Invitational. It was one of two Northeast-10 Conference-best times turned in by Gisore at Gordon Indoor Track.

Gisore's 1:54.62 while winning the 800 meters was the first sub 1:55 time put together by a Northeast-10 competitor thus far in 2013-14. The time made Gisore the top Northeast-10 runner in two events, as he already ranked first in the mile. He bettered his season-best mile time on Sunday as well, finishing fourth and lowering the Northeast-10's top time, with a mark of 4:19.10.

Two other Ravens ran season-best times on the track on Sunday afternoon. Freshman Cory Cataldo (Tewksbury, Mass.) finished second in the 60-meter hurdles at 8.80. Cataldo had already been 10th in the Northeast-10 in the event and he remained there with the time. In the 3,000 meters, sophomore Makopa Rugabirwa (Concord, N.H.) ran an 8:48.42 to finish ninth and remain sixth in the Northeast-10.

Franklin Pierce also saw two season bests in field events at the GBTC Invitational. Freshman Mark Choiniere (Ballston Spa, N.Y.) moved into a tie for fourth in the Northeast-10 in the high jump by finishing third (3.80m). Meanwhile, fellow freshman Brandon Jurasin (Oradell, N.J.) remained seventh in the Conference in the high jump by finishing second (1.85m).

Also of note on Sunday, the Ravens picked up a win at an unconventional distance, courtesy of a 600-meter run of 1:25.33 by freshman Matt Carpenter (Gloucester, Mass.). Senior Calvin Graves (Boston, Mass.) ran a 7.22 in his heat to qualify for the final in the 60-meter dash, but was unable to improve on that time with a 7.21 in the final to finish eighth.

The Ravens return to the track on Friday, Jan. 24, at the first day of the Terrier Invitational, hosted by Boston University.
