Before Franklin Pierce: Four-year letterwinner at Merrimack Valley High School (N.H.)...Javelin, pole vault and decathlon state champion and All-State selection as a senior...Finished third in the javelin at New England Championships and also participated in the pole vault as a senior...Second in the shot put at the divisional level as a senior...Qualified for New England Championships in the pole vault as a junior...Also played soccer at Merrimack Valley.
