Men's Tennis Returns Outdoors, Drops Home Match to SNHU, 5-2

RINDGE, N.H. (4/6/23) – For the first time this spring, the Franklin Pierce men's tennis team took it outside to the FPU Tennis Courts on Thursday afternoon. However, in-conference opponent Southern New Hampshire University played spoiler to their return outdoors, handing the Ravens a 5-2 loss.

The setback drops the Ravens to 3-11 (0-5 NE10) overall, with the squad still searching for a win this spring. The Penmen improve to 8-5 (3-1 NE10) overall with the win.

The Penmen took the early lead by securing the doubles point with matching 6-3 victories at the first two positions. However, the Ravens did come away with a win at court three, as junior Joé Herin (Tias, Spain) and doubles partner senior Nkrumah Patrick (Tunapuna, Trinidad & Tobago) defeated SNHU's Phillipp Roeder and Aron Ouwejan  by a 7-5 score.

In singles play, seniors Alejandro Ortiz (Madrid, Spain) and Joshua Arnold (Scarborough, Trinidad & Tobago) gave Pierce its two points on the day. Ortiz took the win at the No. 4 position through three sets by scores of 6-4, 6-7 (6-8), and 10-6 over opponent Cade Nadeau, while Arnold took his own match on court six with 6-4, 7-5 victory against Samuel Goddard.

The Penmen would go on to win the remaining four singles positions, earning the overall victory.

With just two matches remaining this spring, men's tennis will be back in action on Tuesday, April 11th at 3:00 p.m. against Assumption University in another NE10 home match at the FPU Tennis Courts.
