Men's Tennis Downed by Le Moyne College in NE10 Opener, 6-1

DEWITT, N.Y. (3/22/23) - The Franklin Pierce University men's tennis team suffered a 6-1 loss in their Northeast-10 Conference opener against the Le Moyne College Dolphins on Wednesday afternoon at Elevate Fitness.

With the loss, the Ravens slide to 3-7 (0-1 NE10) overall. Meanwhile, Le Moyne improves to 7-1 (1-0 NE10) this season, with the victory marking their 31st consecutive win against a DII opponent in the regular season.

Le Moyne earned the doubles point after sweeping all three positions. At the first spot, seniors Preston Gordon (Essex Junction, Vt.) and Joshua Arnold (Scarborough, Trinidad and Tobago) were dealt a 6-2 loss against Le Moyne's Tom Jarry and Ethan Miller, while senior Nkrumah Patrick (Tunapuna, Trinidad and Tobago) and freshman Orlando Guerrero (Pachuco, Mexico) fell to Kacper Piekarek and Fabian Sjokvist by a 6-4 decision at No.3 doubles. However, over at the second position, seniors Alejandro Ortiz (Madrid, Spain) and Paul McLellan (Nairobi, Kenya) pushed the Dolphins to the brink by a narrow 7-6 (10-8) score on a tiebreak, closely losing to Peter Hatton and Manuel Righi.

The Dolphin effort continued with wins in five out of six matches, sealing the overall victory. It would be Joshua Arnold who would capture the lone win of the day for Pierce, defeating Le Moyne's Felipe Cruz by matching 6-3 scores through two sets. The Ravens would also see a very close finish in the first set of the fourth position, with Alejandro Ortiz fighting it out with opponent Alberto Diaz to a 7-6 (15-13).

All of the singles matchups would be decided in two sets.

Men's Tennis returns home this Saturday, March 25th with a matchup versus Saint Michael's College at 5:00 p.m. from the Monadnock Indoor Tennis Club.
