Men's Tennis Concludes Fall Competition with 6-1 Win at Post

MIDDLEBURY, Conn. (October 17, 2021) – The Franklin Pierce University men's tennis team downed Post University, 6-1, on Sunday afternoon at the Edgewood Bath & Tennis Center to wrap up fall competition.

The Ravens took the doubles point, sweeping the eagles on all three courts. Junior Alejandro Ortiz (Madrid, Spain) and senior Nkrumah Patrick (Tunapuna, Trinidad and Tobago) defeated Ivan Kalchanov and Samuel Rodriguez of Post, 6-2, at No. 1, before sophomore Ivan Bernal (Madrid, Spain) and graduate student Kevin Denecheau (Artigueloutan, France) won 7-5 over Post's Gustavo Kerber and Niklas Langenfield at No. 3. Graduate student Felipe Carvalho (Sao Paulo, Brazil) and senior Preston Gordon (Essex Junction, Vt.) defeated the Eagles' pair, Cooper Smith and Anton Anderson, 7-6 (4) at No. 2.

Franklin Pierce picked up singles wins at five of the six courts. At No. 5 singles, Patrick defeated Langenfield of Post 6-2, 6-1, to make it a 2-0 match. Denecheau grabbed a singles point after winning 7-5, 6-1 over Post's Kalchanov at No. 2, while Carvalho notched his point with a 6-3, 6-2 win over the Eagles' Kerber at court No. 1. On court No. 4, Gordon downed Anderson of Post 6-3, 6-3, extending the Ravens lead to 5-0. The Eagles' Jose Nunez defeated Ortiz 6-0, 7-5 at No. 6 singles to earn the lone point for Post, but Bernal was able to secure the victory for Franklin Pierce with a 7-5, 5-7, 1-0 (4) win over Smith of Post at No. 3.
