INDIANAPOLIS (May 4, 2021) -- For the first time in nearly two decades, the Franklin Pierce University men’s tennis team is going dancing. The Ravens earned the third NCAA Championship berth in program history (2002, 2003) on Tuesday night, when the NCAA announced the tournament’s 35-team field. Franklin Pierce is the fourth seed in the East Region, and will take on top seed Concordia (N.Y.) in the opening round. Second-seeded Queens (N.Y.) will serve as host of the East Regional.

Franklin Pierce’s first-round match is scheduled for Saturday, May 8, at the Queens College Athletic Complex in Flushing, N.Y. Queens will host third-seeded Le Moyne in the day’s other match. Saturday’s matches are scheduled for 1 and 5 p.m., though it was unknown at press time which match would be in which time slot. The two winners will meet at 1 p.m. Sunday for the regional title.

The Ravens head into the East Regional at 7-3 and were the runner-up in the Northeast-10 Conference Championship. Franklin Pierce was the lone at-large bid in the four-team regional, as each of the other three slots went to automatic bids granted to the champions of the region’s three conferences.

Top seed Concordia heads into NCAAs with a 12-0 record as champion of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference, a title it captured for the third straight year. The Clippers have not lost a match against East Region competition, regular season or postseason, since April of 2018. They are the two-time defending East Region champions and will be making their 23rd all-time NCAA Championship appearance.

Second-seeded Queens is the other heavyweight in the East Region bracket, as the Knights check in at 8-6, though all of their losses were to either Concordia, or to Division I competition. Queens went undefeated in the league en route to its fourth straight East Coast Conference title. The Knights are making their 18th appearance in the national tournament.

Third-seeded Le Moyne defeated Franklin Pierce in the title match of the NE10 Championship and head into the NCAA Championship with a 10-0 record. The Dolphins are making just their second all-time appearance in the national tournament, with the first coming in 2018.

The winner of the East Regional will advance to join the winners from each of seven other regions at the NCAA Championship finals. The finals are set for May 18-20 in Surprise, Ariz.
