Northeast-10 Conference Men's Tennis Awards

EASTON, Mass. (April 26, 2021) -- It was a whole cabinet full of hardware for the Franklin Pierce University men’s tennis team on Monday afternoon, as the Northeast-10 Conference announced its end-of-season awards. Graduate student Kevin Denecheau (Artigueloutan, France) highlighted the haul with his selection as NE10 Rookie of the Year. The Ravens also earned nine All-NE10 awards and had four players named to the NE10 All-Rookie Team, in the biggest collection of postseason awards in program history.

The Rookie of the Year accolade for Denecheau is just the program’s second all-time major NE10 award, as he joins Roberto Chong, who was named NE10 Rookie of the Year in 2018.

Denecheau was also honored at second doubles, along with playing partner Ivan Bernal (Madrid, Spain), as the two earned All-NE10 Second Team honors. For his work at second singles, Denecheau landed on the All-NE10 Third Team. He was named to the All-Rookie Team as well to complete his haul.

The Ravens earned All-NE10 First Team selections at three different positions. The freshman Bernal was honored at third singles, while sophomore Joel Cladera (Palma de Mallorca, Spain) earned plaudits at fourth singles. At third doubles, accolades went to seniors Yuval Barak (Zicron Ya’akov, Israel) and Nkrumah Patrick (Tunapuna, Trinidad and Tobago).

As mentioned above, the team of Bernal and Denecheau was named to the All-NE10 Second Team. They were joined by Barak, who earned Second Team honors at fifth singles.

Four positions on the All-NE10 Third Team went to Franklin Pierce. Graduate student Felipe Carvalho (Sao Paulo, Brazil) earned the hardware at first singles, followed by Denecheau at second singles. Patrick picked up an award at sixth singles, while the pairing of Carvalho and sophomore Alejandro Ortiz (Madrid, Spain) was honored at first doubles.

Three other Ravens joined Denecheau on the All-Rookie Team: Bernal, Cladera and Ortiz. In all, Franklin Pierce had seven players honored by the NE10.

The Ravens are headed to Southern New Hampshire on Tuesday for an NE10 semifinal matchup at 1 p.m.
