Men’s Tennis’ Lawrence Earns East Region Leadership & Sportsmanship from ITA
TEMPE, Ariz. (May 15, 2019) – Senior Marcus Lawrence (Acton, Mass.) of the Franklin Pierce University men’s tennis team has been named the Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s East Region recipient of the Arthur Ashe Leadership & Sportsmanship Award, as announced on Wednesday by the ITA.
Lawrence put together a 2-5 record over seven matches in his senior season, which included a 2-4 mark at sixth singles and a 1-3 record in Northeast-10 Conference play. On the doubles side of things, he posted a 2-3 record while playing with two different doubles partners. Lawrence played primarily with Andrew Schadt at third doubles, where the two put together a 2-2 record. He also went 0-1 at third doubles alongside Yuval Barak.
Along with the award recipients from the nation’s other seven regions, Lawrence will be considered for the national Arthur Ashe award, the winner of which will be announced on May 21.
The Ravens (12-9) finished the 2018-19 campaign with their second consecutive trip to the Northeast-10 Championship at the end of April.
