Men’s Tennis Blanks Eastern Nazarene, 7-0

RINDGE, N.H. (April 11, 2019) – It was smooth sailing on Thursday afternoon for the Franklin Pierce University men's tennis team, which stepped out of conference play for the day. The Ravens rolled up a 7-0 win on their home courts over visiting Eastern Nazarene.

With the win, Franklin Pierce improves to 9-6, while Eastern Nazarene falls to 12-7.

Franklin Pierce opened play on Thursday by breezing through the three doubles matches to collect the doubles point. At first doubles, sophomores Roberto Chong (Puigpunyent, Spain) and Nkrumah Patrick (Tunapuna, Trinidad and Tobago) posted a 6-1 win over Eastern Nazarene junior Henry Siercke and sophomore Julius Opaschowski. At second doubles, it was a 6-2 win for freshman Preston Gordon (Essex Junction, Vt.) and junior Yuval Barak (Zicron Ya'akov, Israel) over freshmen Diego Rodriguez and Tim Schoengens. At third doubles, seniors Andrew Schadt (Tolland, Conn.) and Marcus Lawrence (Acton, Mass.) dispatched junior Kyle Pierson and senior Shaw Campbell, 6-2.

The Ravens did not drop a set in singles play either, as they rolled on to the shutout victory. At first singles, Chong used a second-set tiebreak to finish off Siercke, 6-3, 7-6 (3). At second singles, Gordon went past Opaschowski, 6-2, 7-5. At third singles, Patrick blitzed Rodriguez, 6-2, 6-1. At fourth singles, Barak rolled over Schoengens, 6-2, 6-1. At fifth singles, it was a 6-2, 6-1 win for Schadt over Pierson. At sixth singles, Lawrence finished things off by taking care of sophomore Jesus Lucart, 7-6 (4), 6-0.

The Ravens return to the court on Saturday, April 13, when they travel to take on Bentley in an NE10 match at noon in Waltham, Mass., on the campus of Brandeis.
