RINDGE, N.H. (March 21, 2019) – As the Franklin Pierce University men’s tennis team wraps up a spring break trip to Florida on Thursday, the Ravens are left with just a handful of non-conference tune-ups remaining before returning to Northeast-10 Conference play once the calendar turns to April. Already out to a 3-0 start in league play, when the team returns to NE10 matches, they will do so after being picked to finish in a tie for fourth in the Conference, as announced earlier this winter by the NE10.

In addition, the Ravens have also earned recognition at the regional level from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association for their work during the fall portion of the season. When the most recent ITA East Region team rankings were released in January, Franklin Pierce checked in at the seventh position, out of 10 ranked teams.

Meanwhile, at the conclusion of the fall portion of the schedule – which marks the most recent East Region individual rankings – the crimson and grey had a pair of student-athletes ranked among the top 20 singles players in the region. Sophomore Roberto Chong (Puigpunyent, Spain) was ranked 12th, while senior James Bisazza (West Barnstable, Mass.) was ranked 16th.

It would appear the NE10 coaches have taken notice as well, especially after the team finished in a tie for fourth a year ago to return to the NE10 Championship for the first time in 13 years. Franklin Pierce picked up 72 points in the league’s preseason coaches’ poll, which was good enough to tie for fourth. The Ravens were even with Bentley, which was fitting, as the two finished tied in the NE10 standings last season.

At the top of the poll, three-time defending NE10 champion Southern New Hampshire was picked first, after collecting 96 points and eight of the 10 available first-place votes. One first-place vote went to second-place Merrimack (85 points), while Le Moyne (79 points) was picked third. The remaining first-place vote went to Bentley.

The Ravens continue NE10 play on Wednesday, April 3, when they visit Le Moyne for a noon match. The team has six league matches remaining, and is already just two NE10 victories shy of last year’s total.
