Men’s Tennis Blanks Saint Michael’s, 9-0

RINDGE, N.H. (March 3, 2018) – All six players were victorious in both singles and doubles play on Saturday afternoon, as the Franklin Pierce University men's tennis team rolled up a 9-0 victory at home against Saint Michael's in Northeast-10 Conference play.

With the win, Franklin Pierce improves to 5-2 (2-0 NE10), while Saint Michael's falls to 0-4 (0-3 NE10).

The Ravens opened the day with wins in all three doubles matches, including clean sweeps of the top two contests. At first doubles, it was an 8-0 win for freshman Roberto Chong (Puigpunyent, Spain) and sophomore Yuval Barak (Zicron Ya'akov, Israel) over Saint Michael's junior Dan Foley and sophomore Matt Mosher. The score was the same at second doubles, where juniors James Bisazza (West Barnstable, Mass.) and Andrew Schadt (Tolland, Conn.) blanked freshmen Cam Maher and Colby Antonacci. Junior Marcus Lawrence (Acton, Mass.) and sophomore Matthew Toombs (Pleasanton, Calif.) faced a more competitive match at third doubles, but still notched an 8-5 win over juniors Jake Remillard and Max Allen.

Franklin Pierce also took all six singles matches without dropping a set. Again, the first two matches proved uncompetitive. Chong blitzed Foley at first singles, 6-0, 6-1, while Bisazza dispatched Mosher at second singles, 6-1, 6-1. Fourth singles was also one-sided, with Schadt rolling past Remillard, 6-0, 6-2.

Things were a bit tighter at third singles, but still relatively easy for Barak in a 6-4, 6-2 win over Maher. The closest singles match came at fifth singles, which required a first-set tiebreak before Lawrence went on to better Antonacci, 7-6 (6), 6-2.

With the team match already decided, Toombs picked up an 8-2 win in the pro-set format over Allen at sixth singles to round out the day.

The Ravens return to the court on Saturday, March 10, when they travel to Colby for a non-conference match at noon in Waterville, Maine.
