Men’s Tennis Edged at Colby-Sawyer, 5-4

NEW LONDON, N.H. (October 10, 2016) – The Franklin Pierce University men's tennis team was edged on Monday, 5-4, in a competitive non-conference match at Colby-Sawyer.

With the loss, the Ravens conclude the fall portion of their schedule at 1-3, while Colby-Sawyer improves to 1-3.

Franklin Pierce trailed 2-1 after doubles play on Monday. The lone win for the team came at first doubles, where sophomore James Bisazza (West Barnstable, Mass.) and freshman Yuval Barak (Zicron Ya'akov, Israel) picked up an 8-6 win over sophomore Alex Wright and junior Gustav Jigrup.

Meanwhile, Colby-Sawyer picked up wins at second and third doubles. At second doubles, senior Dean Boodakian and Ryan Sawyer doubled up sophomores Andrew Schadt (Tolland, Conn.) and Marcus Lawrence (Acton, Mass.), 8-4. At third doubles, it was an 8-3 win for juniors Ross Kenney and Andrew Peloquin over junior Olivier Viel (Quebec City, Quebec) and sophomore Dan Longtin (Eliot, Maine).

The two teams then split six singles matches, as Colby-Sawyer squeaked out the 5-4 win. Franklin Pierce took the two most hotly-contested matches, at fourth singles and sixth singles. At fourth singles, Lawrence battled to a 6-1, 2-6, 10-2 win over Kenney. At sixth singles, Longtin scratched out a 6-2, 3-6, 11-9 victory over freshman Mike White. Franklin Pierce's remaining point came at second singles, where Barak notched a 6-2, 6-0 win over Sawyer.

Ultimately, the Ravens would come up one win short, as Colby-Sawyer tallied wins at first, third and fifth singles. At first singles, it was a 6-3, 6-3 win for Wright over Bisazza. At third singles, Boodakian took care of Schadt, 6-2, 6-3. At fifth singles, Broderick dispatched Viel, 6-2, 6-3.

The Ravens have concluded the fall portion of their 2016-17 schedule and will return to the court in the spring.
