Men’s Tennis Caps Season with 6-3 Win at Saint Michael’s

COLCHESTER, Vt. (April 15, 2017) – The Franklin Pierce University men's tennis team concluded its season by doubling up Saint Michael's, 6-3, for a road victory on Saturday afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference play.

With the win, Franklin Pierce finishes its 2016-17 season at 4-13 (3-6 NE10), while Saint Michael's wraps up the year at 1-14 (0-9 NE10).

Franklin Pierce opened play by taking all three doubles matches to jump out to a 3-0 lead. At first doubles, it was an 8-2 win for sophomores James Bisazza (West Barnstable, Mass.) and Andrew Schadt (Tolland, Conn.) over Saint Michael's senior Ben Lambert and sophomore Dan Foley. The remaining two doubles matches were more closely contested: it was a 9-7 win at second doubles for freshman Yuval Barak (Zicron Ya'akov, Israel) and sophomore Marcus Lawrence (Acton, Mass.) over freshman Matt Mosher and senior Hayden Steward, while junior Olivier Viel (Quebec City, Quebec) and freshman Matthew Toombs (Pleasanton, Calif.) scored an 8-4 win over seniors Patrick Dietz and Forrest Owen at third doubles.

The teams then split the six available singles points as the Ravens went on to the 6-3 victory. Franklin Pierce took each of the top three singles contests, including blowout wins at first and second singles. At first singles, Bisazza swept away Lambert, 6-0, 6-0. At second singles, it was a 6-0, 6-1 win for Barak over Dietz. Meanwhile, at third singles, Schadt was more thoroughly tested, but posted a 6-4, 7-5 win over Foley.
