Men’s Tennis Blanked at Le Moyne, 9-0

Ravens home against Merrimack next Saturday

Franklin Pierce Men's Tennis The Ravens are currently scheduled to open the home portion of their spring schedule next Saturday against Merrimack.

LIVERPOOL, N.Y. (March 1, 2014) – The Franklin Pierce University men's tennis team was defeated, 9-0, at Le Moyne in Northeast-10 Conference play on Saturday afternoon.

With the loss, Franklin Pierce falls to 2-4 (1-4 Northeast-10), while Le Moyne improves to 3-5 (2-4 Northeast-10).

Junior Mark Petrie (Pembroke, Mass.) put up the biggest fight of the day for the Ravens, as he got locked in a three-set duel with Le Moyne senior Daryl Johnson. Johnson took the first set, 6-4, before Petrie bounced back with a 6-4 win of his own in the second set. However, Johnson was able to take control of the tiebreak to come away with the 6-4, 4-6, 10-2 win.

Five different players picked up wins in both singles and doubles play on Saturday for Le Moyne, with freshman James Gayvert leading the way by chalking up wins at both first singles and first doubles. At first doubles, he teamed with freshman Benjamin Spoor to cruise to an 8-3 win. At first singles, Gayvert quickly dispatched his opponent, 6-1, 6-0.

The Ravens are scheduled to return to the court on Saturday, March 8, when they return home to take on Merrimack in a Northeast-10 Conference match at 11 a.m.
