Bennett provides fight at fourth singles

GARDEN CITY, N.Y. (October 6, 2012) – The Franklin Pierce University men's tennis team was defeated, 9-0, on the road at Adelphi in Northeast-10 Conference play on Saturday afternoon.

With the loss, Franklin Pierce falls to 1-4 (0-4 Northeast-10), while Adelphi opens the season 1-0 (1-0 Northeast-10).

It would be freshman Drew Bennett (Rindge, N.H.) who provided the most resistance on behalf of the Ravens. At second doubles, he teamed with fellow freshman Jared Taylor (Pelham, N.H.), though the duo ultimately fell, 8-3, to Adelphi freshman Sander Brenner and senior Bryan Kallenberg. Bennett shined in singles play, as he faced off with freshman Boris Tiberkov at fourth singles. Though Tiberkov posted a straight-set victory for the Panthers, it did not come easy, as the match wound up 6-4, 6-4.

In all, five different Adelphi players picked up wins in both singles and doubles play on Saturday, led by senior Andreas Hammar. Hammar lost just one game on the afternoon, and that came in doubles play, where he teamed with freshman Alan Chocron for an 8-1 win. Later, at first singles, Hammar swept his way to a 6-0, 6-0 victory.

The Ravens have only a match with Merrimack, originally scheduled for Oct. 2 but postponed, remaining on the fall portion of their schedule. It is unknown at this time whether that match will be made up in the fall, or pushed back to the spring season.
