Men's Tennis Falls to Merrimack, 9-0

Gilhuly held his own at first singles before ultimately falling on Monday afternoon against Merrimack.RINDGE, N.H. (April 8, 2013) – The Franklin Pierce University men's tennis team was defeated on Monday afternoon, 9-0, by Merrimack in Northeast-10 Conference play at Franklin Pierce.
With the loss, Franklin Pierce improves to 2-5 (1-5 Northeast-10), while Merrimack improves to 9-4 (7-0 Northeast-10).
Junior Pat Gilhuly (Killingworth, Conn.) likely had the best performance for Franklin Pierce, as he gave freshman Matt Lipinski a run at first singles. Gilhuly ultimately succumbed, 6-4, 6-3. Earlier in the day, in doubles play, sophomores Mark Petrie and Nikolaus Pellegrino (Pawcatuck, Conn.) hung right with Merrimack seniors Chris Toegemann and Petar Golijanin at third doubles, before falling, 8-6.
When all was said and done, all six Merrimack players won in both singles and doubles play on Monday. Lipinski led the way, as he teamed with freshman Mark Mallory to post an 8-2 win at first doubles before getting the better of Gilhuly at first singles. Elsewhere, junior Chris Barnhart was part of a second doubles team which also won, 8-2, as well as posting a 6-0, 6-0 sweep at second singles.
The Ravens return to the court on Thursday, April 11, when they remain home to host American International in a Northeast-10 Conference match at 3 p.m.
