Ravens back in action Friday against Merrimack

Colombo Colombo and the Ravens are back in action on Thursday evening at home against Merrimack.

MANCHESTER, N.H. (October 11, 2011) – The Franklin Pierce University men's tennis team dropped a 9-0 decision at Southern New Hampshire in Northeast-10 Conference play on Tuesday afternoon.

With the loss, Franklin Pierce falls to 1-3 (0-3 Northeast-10), while Southern New Hampshire improves to 3-1 (3-0 Northeast-10).

The Penmen proved dominant throughout the match, dropping just nine games over the six singles matches, though Franklin Pierce put up a fight in doubles play to start the day. At first doubles, senior Ben Brewer (Brattleboro, Vt.) and sophomore Pat Gilhuly (Killingworth, Conn.) hung tight before ultimately falling, 8-5. At third doubles, freshman Keith Bujak (Lyndeborough, N.H.) and sophomore Tyler Colombo (Gardner, Mass.) did one better, but ended up falling as well, 8-6.

In all, five Southern New Hampshire players won in both doubles and singles play on the afternoon, led by junior Mitch Dobek, who teamed with freshman Mike Wallace for an 8-2 win at second doubles before picking up a 6-0, 6-1 win at first singles.

The Ravens return to the court on Friday, Oct. 14, when wrap up the fall portion of their schedule by hosting Merrimack in a Northeast-10 Conference match at 6:30 p.m. in Rindge.
