Gilhuly, Brewer post two wins each

RINDGE, N.H. (October 9, 2011) – Sophomore Pat Gilhuly (Killingworth, Conn.) and freshman Chris Brewer (Brattleboro, Vt.) both posted victories in both doubles and singles play on Sunday afternoon, but the Franklin Pierce University men's tennis team dropped a 5-4 decision to Saint Michael's at home in Northeast-10 Conference play.

With the loss, Franklin Pierce falls to 1-2 (0-2 Northeast-10), while Saint Michael's improves to 4-1 (3-1 Northeast-10).

Franklin Pierce jumped to a 2-1 lead early, by earning victories in two of the three doubles matches. Senior Ben Brewer (Brattleboro, Vt.) teamed with Gilhuly to pick up an 8-6 win at first doubles against Saint Michael's sophomore Nick Bosco and junior Chris Moskal. Meanwhile, at second doubles, Chris Brewer joined senior Sam Aubin (Manchester, N.H.) to squeak out a 9-7 win over sophomores Chris Allen and Tom Brahm.

The Ravens would continue to hold the lead at 4-3 after the two teams split the top four singles flights. Gilhuly made it a two-win day at second singles, by dispatching senior Sam Cieplicki in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2. Chris Brewer finished off his own double by rallying for a 4-6, 6-2, 6-4 win at third singles over junior Eric Parziale.

However, Saint Michael's would come back to take the team match, 5-4, with straight-set victories at both fifth and sixth singles. Senior Brian Healey would be the only Purple Knight to pick up victories in both doubles and singles play.

The Ravens return to the court on Tuesday, Oct. 11, when they travel to Southern New Hampshire for a Northeast-10 Conference match at 3 p.m. in Manchester, N.H. Franklin Pierce next plays at home on Friday, October 14 against Merrimack at 6:30 p.m.
