Ben Brewer picks up two points

RINDGE, N.H. (April 6, 2012) – Senior Ben Brewer (Brattleboro, Vt.) won in both doubles and singles play on Friday afternoon to lead the Franklin Pierce University men's tennis team to a 6-3 win over Pace in Northeast-10 Conference play at Franklin Pierce.

With the win, Franklin Pierce improves to 3-5 (2-5 Northeast-10), while Pace falls to 4-9 (2-8 Northeast-10).

The Ravens took two of three points in doubles play to take the early lead. At first doubles, Brewer and sophomore Pat Gilhuly (Killingworth, Conn.) squeaked out a 9-7 win over sophomore Michael Metesan and junior Khari Linton. Franklin Pierce also picked up a point by default at third doubles.

Earning another point by default at sixth singles, the Ravens needed only two more singles points to clinch the match, and they got three. Brewer finished off his 2-0 day with a straight-set win at fourth singles, 6-4, 6-1, over freshman Brett Ringelheim. Meanwhile, his younger brother, freshman Chris Brewer (Brattleboro, Mass.) picked up a 6-1, 6-3 win over Linton at second singles. The remaining Franklin Pierce point came at fifth singles, where sophomore Tyler Colombo (Gardner, Mass.) defeated senior Andrew Feola, 6-0, 6-3.

Freshman Mattia Pastore went 2-0 for Pace on the day, winning at third singles after teaming with Ringelheim for a win at second doubles.

The Ravens return to the court on Saturday, April 7, when they remain home to host Adelphi in a Northeast-10 Conference contest at 2 p.m.
