Ben Brewer, Pat Gilhuly each notch two wins

MANCHESTER, N.H. (April 3, 2012) – Sophomore Pat Gilhuly (Killingworth, Conn.) posted wins in both first doubles and first singles on Tuesday afternoon to lead the Franklin Pierce University men's tennis team to a 6-3 road victory over Saint Anselm in Northeast-10 Conference play.

With the win, Franklin Pierce improves to 2-5 (1-5 Northeast-10), while Saint Anselm falls to 2-7 (1-7 Northeast-10).

The Ravens jumped out to a 3-0 lead by sweeping the three doubles matches. At first doubles, Gilhuly teamed with senior Ben Brewer (Brattleboro, Vt.) to come up with an 8-5 win over Saint Anselm freshman Nick Schwab and senior Alex Schultheis. Brewer's younger brother, freshman Chris Brewer (Brattleboro, Vt.) joined senior Sam Aubin (Manchester, N.H.) at second doubles to notch an 8-4 win over juniors Joseph Zucchi and William Condon. Lastly, at third doubles, freshman Keith Bujak (Lyndeborough, N.H.) and sophomore Tyler Colombo (Gardner, Mass.) played to an 8-8 tie with junior Michael Hanna and senior Liam Concannon, before the Franklin Pierce duo notched a 7-4 win in the tiebreak to pick up the 9-8 win.

Needing only two singles points to finish off the victory, the Ravens got three, led by Gilhuly, who stormed to a 6-1, 6-1 win over Schwab at first singles to pick up his second point of the day. His doubles partner followed suit, as Ben Brewer notched a 6-4, 6-1 win over Condon at fourth singles to clinch the match for Franklin Pierce. With things already decided, Bujak knocked off Concannon, 8-2, in the pro set format at sixth singles.

Schultheis, Zucchi and Hanna picked up the Saint Anselm points at second, third and fifth singles, respectively.

The Ravens return to the court on Friday, April 6, when they return home to host pace in a Northeast-10 Conference contest at 11 a.m.
