Ben Brewer wins at first doubles and fifth singles

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (April 1, 2012) – Senior Ben Brewer (Brattleboro, Vt.) posted victories at both first doubles and fifth singles on Sunday afternoon, but the Franklin Pierce University men's tennis team was defeated, 7-2, by Le Moyne in Northeast-10 Conference play at Le Moyne.

With the loss, Franklin Pierce falls to 1-5 (0-5 Northeast-10), while Le Moyne improves to 5-7 (4-4 Northeast-10).

The Ravens picked up one of their two points right out of the gate on Sunday, as Brewer teamed with sophomore Pat Gilhuly (Killingworth, Conn.) to tally an 8-5 win over Le Moyne seniors Ken Schiefer and Daniel Sullivan. Brewer was responsible for the other Franklin Pierce point of the day as well, as he took the court at fifth doubles and picked up a 6-1, 7-6 win over sophomore Daryl Johnson.

Another strong showing for the Ravens came from the second doubles team of freshman Chris Brewer (Brattleboro, Vt.) and senior Sam Aubin (Manchester, N.H.), who locked in a battle with sophomore Alessandro Nieves and senior Joseph Persia before ultimately falling, 8-6.

Two Le Moyne players picked up wins in both singles and doubles play on Sunday, led by senior James Shelp, who posted a 6-2, 6-3 win at second singles after teaming with Johnson for an 8-4 win at third doubles.

The Ravens return to the court on Tuesday, April 3, when they travel to Saint Anselm for a Northeast-10 Conference contest at 2:30 p.m. in Manchester, N.H.
