Ravens back in action Tuesday against Bentley

RINDGE, N.H. (October 11, 2010) – The Franklin Pierce University men's tennis team was defeated, 9-0, at home on Monday afternoon by Southern New Hampshire in Northeast-10 Conference play.

With the loss, Franklin Pierce falls to 0-5 (0-5 Northeast-10), while Southern New Hampshire improves to 3-1 (3-1 Northeast-10) with the victory.

Freshman Pat Gilhuly (Killingworth, Conn.) did some of the best work for the Ravens on the afternoon. At second doubles, he teamed with senior Dan McDonough (Manchester, N.H.) and the duo hung right with Southern New Hampshire sophomores Mitchell Dobek and Jared Wright through the first half of the match, though the Penmen pair eventually pulled away for an 8-4 victory. At second singles, Gilhuly squared off with Dobek and was defeated, 6-2, 6-1.

Meanwhile, at first singles, junior Ben Brewer (Brattleboro, Vt.) took on SNHU freshman Juan Arango-Campo, and eventually fell, 6-2, 6-2. Junior Andrew Wong (Hong Kong, China) suffered the same, 6-2, 6-2 fate for the Ravens at fifth singles against junior John Niland.

All six Southern New Hampshire players won in both doubles and singles play on Monday. Freshman Alex Mukdaprakorn and sophomore Tim Hamilton each lost only two games on the day. Mukdaprakorn swept through his match at third singles, 6-0, 6-0, after teaming with Arango-Campo earlier in the day to post an 8-2 win at first doubles. Meanwhile, Hamilton and Niland won their match at third doubles, 8-0, before Hamilton picked up a 6-2, 6-0 win at sixth singles.

The Ravens return to action on Tuesday, Oct. 12, when they remain home to host Bentley in a Northeast-10 Conference match at 4 p.m.
