Brewer Brewer posted wins at both first doubles and first singles on Tuesday afternoon.

RINDGE, N.H. (April 5, 2011) – Junior Ben Brewer (Brattleboro, Vt.) and freshman Pat Gilhuly (Killingworth, Conn.) posted dominant wins at first and second singles, respectively, and each picked up a doubles victory as well on Tuesday afternoon to lead the Franklin Pierce University men's tennis team to a 7-2 home victory over American International in Northeast-10 Conference play. Freshman Nick Lyon picked up a win at third singles for AIC in the loss.

With the win, Franklin Pierce improves to 1-6 (1-6 Northeast-10), while American International falls to 0-6 (0-5 Northeast-10). It was the first contest of the five-match spring portion of the schedule for Franklin Pierce.

The Ravens jumped out to a quick, 3-0 lead, as the team was victorious in all three doubles matches. Gilhuly helped with the most decisive of the three victories, as he teamed with senior Dan McDonough (Manchester, N.H.) to post an 8-3 win over Lyon and sophomore Jakub Simicek at second doubles. Meanwhile, Brewer teamed with junior Sam Aubin (Manchester, N.H.) at first doubles and junior Andrew Wong (Hong Kong) teamed with freshman Mikie Connor (Newburyport, Mass.) at third doubles as both duos posted 8-6 wins.

Franklin Pierce kept on rolling through the early portions of singles play, as Brewer and Gilhuly combined to drop just five games at first and second singles, respectively. At first singles, Brewer posted a 6-1, 6-2 win over Simicek, while Gilhuly picked up a 6-1, 6-1 victory over AIC senior Robert Lubold. Later in the day, Wong posted an 8-6 win at fifth singles, while Connor tallied a 7-7 (7-5) win at sixth singles, both coming in the pro set format.

AIC picked up its only two points of the day at third and fourth singles. At third singles, Lyon tallied a 6-1, 6-4 win, while freshman Derek Alves posted a 9-7 win in the pro set format at fourth singles.

The Ravens return to the court on Friday, April 8, when they travel to Saint Anselm for a Northeast-10 Conference match at 3:30 p.m. in Manchester, N.H.
