Bryant Bests Franklin Pierce, 5-3
Ravens fall in Northeast-10 Tournament First Round Action
RINDGE, N.H. (April 21, 2004) - Franklin Pierce fell to Bryant, 5-3 in the first round of the Northeast-10 men's tennis tournament this afternoon.
Jonathan Pelliker (Curacao, Netherlands Antiles/Redulphus College) led the way for the Bulldogs with wins in singles and doubles play. At #1 singles, Pelliker defeated senior captain Darko Minic (Belgrade, Serbia/XII Belgrade Gimnasium) 6-0, 6-2, and won his #1 doubles match alongside Eric Zipp (Darien, Wisc./Delavan-Darien) 8-6.
Junior captain Maciej Szpakowski (Cieszyn, Poland/Mattituck (N.Y.)) was the only Ravens player to post wins at singles and doubles with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Al Duro at #3 singles and a 8-1 win at #3 doubles alongside J.P. Morgan (Hampton Bays, N.Y./Hampton Bays) over Duro and Miguel Duenas (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic/Lux Mundi). The pair finishes the 2004 season undefeated in the Conference at 9-0, 10-1 overall.
Junior Arun Lazarus (Bradenton, Fla./Bayshore) earned the only other win for the Ravens, a 6-2, 6-1 triumph over Eric Zipp (Darien, Wisc./Delavan-Darien) at #2 singles.
Franklin Pierce finishes the 2004
season with an 8-12 overall record, 7-4 in the Northeast-10. Bryant
(7-10, 6-5 NE-10) advances to the Northeast-10 semifinals, held at
Franklin Pierce this Saturday.
