No. 6 Franklin Pierce Pounds LeMoyne, 9-0
Ravens close out regular season with shutout win
RINDGE, N.H. (April 18, 2003) - The Franklin Pierce men's tennis team, ranked No. 6 in the Northeast region, blanked LeMoyne College, 9-0, in Northeast-10 Conference men's tennis action this afternoon.
Senior Ricky Sanford (Stratford, Conn./Bunnell) andDarko Minic (Belgrade, Yugoslavia), the No. 3-ranked doubles team in the region, improved to 13-6 with an 8-4 win at #1 doubles over LeMoyne's Jani Voudren and Jeff Lonczak. Sanford went on to clinch a 6-0, 6-1 win over Rodrigo Canadas at the #3 singles spot, while Minic posted a 6-3, 6-3 win over Voudren at #1 singles.
Senior Art Shannon (Danvers, Mass./Danvers) remains undefeated in 15-straight singles matches, as he defeated T.J. Sennet 6-0, 6-1 at the #5 seed, after registering an 8-1 win with sophomore Maciej Szpakowski (Cieszyn, Poland/Mattituck (N.Y.)) at #2 doubles. Szpakowski also recorded a win at singles with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Dave Majak.
Senior Michael Hoffner (Wantagh, N.Y./Wantagh) and sophomore Ryan Jones (Westfield, N.J./Westfield) completed the sweep of the Dolphins with an 8-2 win at #3 doubles and two-set wins in their singles matches.
Franklin Pierce closes out the regular season with a 14-10 record overall, 9-2 clip in the Northeast-10. The Ravens will open up post-season play at the Northeast-10 Conference tournament, hosted by Assumption College, starting on Friday, April 25. LeMoyne (9-7, 6-4 NE-10) next hosts Hamilton on Tuesday in a non conference match.
