Franklin Pierce Defeats Saint Michaels, 8-1
RINDGE, N.H. (April 11, 2002) - The Franklin Pierce men's tennis team registered its second straight Northeast-10 Conference win with an 8-1 victory over Saint Michael's College in League action this afternoon.
Juniors Michael Hoffner (Wantagh, N.Y./Wantagh) and Ricky Sanford (Stratford, Conn./Bunnell) both recorded two set wins in their singles matches and joined up for an 8-2 win at #1 doubles to pace the Ravens.
Freshman Maciej Szpakowski (Cutchougue, N.Y./Mattituck) recorded a 6-0, 6-0 win over Saint Michael's John Clark after posting an 8-1 win at #2 doubles with teammate Art Shannon (Danvers, Mass./Danvers). Shannon also recorded a two set win in his singles match, as he defeated Sol Dostilio 6-1, 6-4.
Saint Michael's freshman Josh Holt notched the only win for the Purple Knights, as he defeated freshman J.P. Morgan (Hampton Bays, N.Y./Hampton Bays) 5-7, 6-4 (10-6).
Franklin Pierce (9-9, 5-3 NE-10) returns to action on Saturday when it hosts Bryant College in a Northeast-10 Conference matchup at 1 p.m. Saint Michael's College (7-6, 4-6 NE-10) next hosts Le Moyne College on Saturday at 1 p.m.
