Franklin Pierce Downs Stonehill, 7-2
NORTH EASTON, MASS. (March 28, 2002) - The Franklin Pierce men's tennis team defeated Stonehill College, 7-2, in Northeast-10 Conference action this afternoon.
Junior Michael Hoffner (Wantagh, N.Y./Wantagh) won his match at #2 singles, defeating Stonehill's Jon Palmer 6-4, 6-4 and teamed up with classmate Ricky Sanford (Stratford, Conn./Bunnell) for an 8-0 win at #2 doubles to pace the Ravens.
Maciej Szpakowski (Cutchougue, N.Y./Mattituck) defeated Brandan Towers 6-0, 6-0 (9-7) at #4 singles and notched an 8-4 win at #1 doubles with teammate Darko Minic (Belgrade, Yugoslavia/XII Belgrade Gimnasium) to help the cause. Junior Art Shannon (Danvers, Mass./Danvers) also won his singles match in two sets and joined up with senior Pat Teague (West Haven, Conn./West Haven) for an 8-3 victory at #3 doubles.
Franklin Pierce (6-6, 2-2 NE-10) returns to action on Wednesday, April 3, when it travels to Southern New Hampshire University for a Northeast-10 Conference matchup at 4 p.m. Stonehill (3-5, 2-2 NE-10) next travels to Le Moyne College for a League matchup at 10 a.m.
