Szpakowski Named NE-10 Freshman of the Week

Cutchougue, N.Y. native earns his first Conference honor

RINDGE, N.H. (April 1, 2002) - Franklin Pierce freshman Maciej Szpakowski (Cutchougue, N.Y./Cutchougue) was named the Northeast-10 Conference tennis Freshman of the Week today by the Conference office.

The honor is a first for Szpakowski, who earned the honor after his outstanding performance at #4 singles and #1 doubles in Franklin Pierce's 7-2 win over Stonehill College last week.

Szpakowski blanked Stonehill's Brandan Towers 6-0, 6-0 and then went on to notch an 8-4 victory at #1 doubles with teammate Darko Minic (Belgrade, Yugoslavia/XII Belgrade Gimnasium).

Szpakowski currently sports a 3-1 record at #4 doubles, with a perfect 2-0 record against NE-10 opponents. Szpakowski holds a combined record of 8-5 in his doubles matches with Minic.

Franklin Pierce (6-6, 2-2 NE-10) returns to the courts tomorrow, when it travels to Southern New Hampshire University for a Northeast-10 Conference matchup at 5 p.m. The match was originally scheduled for Wednesday at 4 p.m.
