Rolls Over Merrimack, 7-2
RINDGE, N.H. (April 15, 2002) - The Franklin Pierce men's tennis team recorded its fourth straight League victory with a 7-2 win over Merrimack College in Northeast-10 Conference action this afternoon.
Juniors Michael Hoffner (Wantagh, N.Y./Wantagh) and Ricky Sanford (Stratford, Conn./Bunnell) both posted two set wins at #1 and #2 singles and teamed up for an 8-3 win at #1 doubles to lead the Ravens.
Freshman Matt Szpakowski (Cutchougue, N.Y./Mattituck) and junior Art Shannon (Danvers, Mass./Danvers) also secured wins in their singles matches and joined forces for an 8-2 win at #2 doubles. With the 6-0, 6-0 win at #5 singles, Shannon improved to a perfect 9-0 record versus Conference opponents.
Merrimack's Sean Ryan recorded the Warriors lone win at singles, as he defeated Franklin Pierce's Ryan Jones (Westfield, N.J./Westfield) in three sets and teamed up with Mike Pearson to notch a 8-5 win at #3 doubles.
Franklin Pierce (11-10, 7-3 NE-10) returns to action Wednesday when it hosts UMass Lowell in a Northeast-10 College matchup at 3 p.m.
