Franklin Pierce Falls to Bryant in Tournament Semi-finals, 5-3
NASHUA, N.H. (April 20, 2002) - The Franklin Pierce men's tennis team fell in the Northeast-10 Conference Tournament Semi-finals to Bryant College, 5-3, this evening.
Bryant's Miguel Duenas recorded a three set win over Franklin Pierce's Art Shannon (Danvers, Mass./Danvers) after posting an 8-6 win at #3 doubles with partner Jesse Thompson. Thompson also notched a win in his singles match, as he beat Ryan Jones (Westfield, N.J./Westfield) 6-3, 6-3 at #6 singles.
Franklin Pierce's lone win at doubles came from Ricky Sanford (Stratford, Conn./Bunnell) and Michael Hoffner (Wantagh, N.Y./Wantagh), who defeated Jonathan Peiliker and Antonio Valero 8-4 at #1 doubles.
Sanford went on to defeat Valero in three sets at #3 singles, while Hoffner recorded a two set win over Erik Zipp at #2 doubles.
Franklin Pierce closes out the 2002 season with a 15-10 record overall, 11-3 in Northeast-10 Conference play.
